Prof. Gayane Sepugovna Tumyan, MD, PhD

G.S. Tumyan graduated with honors from the Yerevan State School of Medicine in General Medicine. She continued her postgraduate education and worked as a hematologist in the Republican Center for Hematology of the Armenian Ministry of Health.

In 1993, she entered a PhD program at the hematological department of the NN Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center. This clinical unit was established in 1965 and became the first of its kind in the structure of the country’s leading oncology research center.

In the years that followed, oncohematology continues to successfully develop as an integral part of fundamental and clinical oncology as a whole. This unique department was the one where G.S. Tumyan progressed in her career from oncologist to Head of Department for Drug Chemotherapy and Hematology at the NN Blokhin National Medical Cancer Research Center.

This journey includes the defense of candidate (1996) and doctoral (2006) dissertations, she was awarded the title of Professor (2022), and has worked at the AI Savitskii Department of Oncology and Palliative Medicine at the Russian Medical Academy of Post-Graduate Education (since 2021). She was also an academic supervisor of dissertations and author of more than 200 academic papers and journal articles as well as co-author of National Clinical Guidelines on the treatment of lymphoproliferative diseases.

And now, G.S. Tumyan continues to be intensely involved in research, medical, and teaching activities, heads the Department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at the NN Blokhin National Medical Cancer Research Center, and is a member of the Presidium of the Russian Professional Society of Oncohematology, member of the editorial board of the journal Hematology and Transfusiology, deputy editor-in-chief and since 2025 editor-in-chief of Clinical Oncohematology. Fundamental Studies and Clinical Practice. This journal has been published since 2008, it is listed as a peer reviewed journal and publication by the Supreme Attestation Commission, can be found on the Scopus database and Web of Science, and is recognized as the most authoritative scientific publication in its field.
